Water related accidents are grim realities of living in paradise.  We urge you to take time to understand local ocean conditions and practice safe habits like swimming with others.

Drug & Alcohol Prevention & Treatment

A few statistics provide a glimpse of the drug problem on our island…

• 80-90% of all crimes committed on Kauai are drug related.
• 1,085 adults and 195 adolescents receive some level of treatment for drugs each year. 
• At several agencies, there is a waiting list of youth and adults needing treatment.
• Over 17% of adolescents report exposure to illicit drug use in school and the community.

Kauai Community Drug Response  Since 2003, 90 volunteers on the Kaua'i Planning & Action Alliance Drug Action Team to develop an island-wide five-year plan to combat drugs.  Read more...

Substance Abuse and Mental Health Administration (SAMHSA) has links to drug treatment, mental health issues and an amazing inventory of FREE brochures you can order- many of them actually in our community health library right now! (brochure library open 8 a.m.--  6 p.m. daily on our lanai).

North Shore residents consistently tell us that they value our natural resources and are concerned about impacts that are degrading our local environmental health.  Some of these local issues are:
