The website of Ka Hoʻoilina, is the first bilingual journal to make archival Hawaiian language materials accessible to the general public.
The Hawaiian Language Legacy Program (Papahana Hoʻoilina ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi) was created to preserve, publish and disseminate 19th and 20th century Hawaiian language materials (collectively called here the "Legacy Materials") for the teaching and revitalization of the Hawaiian language and culture.
This Legacy Journal is the realization of those goals. The term "puke pai" has been coined as an equivalent for "journal" because a journal is a publication ("puke") that promotes ("pai") a subject area. |
